In the early 20th Century, many Kurds considered the creation of a homeland - referred to as "Kurdistan". After World War One the provision for a Kurdish state was made in the 1920 Treaty of Sevres. Hopes were lost three years later when the Treaty of Lausanne, set the boundaries of modern Turkey, made no provision for a Kurdish state and left Kurds with minority status in their respective countries. The struggle continues for an Independent Kurdistan Nation State.
