Downtown Salt Lake City-- The Glitter & The Underbelly

Salt Lake City's Main Street is a hub for cool, local bars, music, entertainment high finance, and homelessness. It's a strange dichotomy, on one side of the street is the $2 billion "Mormon Mall" called the City Creek Center. On the other side, there are blighted and boarded-up buildings due to months of homeless encampments.

Today, many of the homeless are now a few blocks to the west in the Rio Grande area. But the homeless population, the drug trade, and crime have been skyrocketing in recent years. Many vulnerable homeless fall victim to violence and crime, and despite this other neighboring cities and states are sending their homeless to Salt Lake City.
