Benefits cheat paid over £100,000 in handouts she was not entitled to

An advantages cheat who was paid over £100,000 in freebees she was not qualified for has kept her opportunity.

Lynsey Catley asserted pay support, tax breaks, lodging and board tax reductions, alongside other monies which she realized she shouldn't get. The 39-year-old, of Broomfield, Jarrow, conceded six charges of advantage extortion, adding up to a sum of £102,787.

Newcastle Crown Court heard Catley admitted she had been untrustworthy when she was examined in 2018 regarding her cases and said she would repay the cash. The court heard the cases had begun as genuine and authentic however she neglected to tell the specialists when her conditions changed.
Nicholas Path, guarding, said Catley works 60 hours out of every week and has been reimbursing however much she can bear from her wages. Mr Path added: "She is extremely grieved. This culpable was at an at once at a depressed spot in her life. The court can have some certainty she won't insult once more."

Mr Recorder Imprint McKone condemned Catley, who has no past convictions, to 19 months detainment, suspended for a long time, alongside 280 hours neglected work to be embraced.

The appointed authority told her: "You have the right to go to jail today. Diligent individuals pay duties to help the people who need assistance. You got help when you wanted it. Citizens are offended by benefit extortion."

The appointed authority said the prison term could be suspended as Catley is prepared to do
recovery, has liabilities and work.
