Back in 1974, employees of one of the postal sorting points in the city of Montreal noticed that a large number of letters could not be automatically processed due to an incomplete address, there was no recipient index on the envelope, and mostly these were letters from children addressed to Santa Claus.
Quite voluntarily, Canadian Post employees decided to answer these letters themselves, as they did not want the little authors to be disappointed by the lack of a response. But it was impossible to answer the ever-increasing flow of letters by the forces of postal workers in one city, Canada Post in 1983 created a special program for answering letters to Santa Claus, establishing a special address for him with his own index.
