Gili Trawangan, Lombok

Identify the turtle in the video if you can. One of the few islands where witnessing a turtle in the wild is almost certain is the Gili group of islands. There you can see Green Turtles (Chelonia mydas) and Hawksbill Turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata), two extremely endangered species.

The largest of Lombok's Gili Islands, Gili Trawangan is renowned for its nightlife. However, there are some serene beaches and resorts on the west side.

The place to stay We might suggest the Aston Sunset Beach Resort on the west side: A fantastic beach, lovely pool, and a courteous staff. However, you must travel to the other side, where the party is, via bicycle or cidomo (horse-drawn carriage). This is a fun ride.
