North Korea launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) on Friday, November 18, possibly landing west of Hokkaido, within Japan’s exclusive economic zone, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida of Japan said. South Korea’s government condemned the ICBM launch as “a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions and a grave provocation that heightens tension on the Korean Peninsula and in the region,” according to local reports.
