Cristiano Ronaldo's relationship with Manchester United looks to be heading for an increasingly messy divorce.

Now at 37 years old, and preparing for the 2022 FIFA World Cup with Portugal — which begins on Nov. 20, Ronaldo is in the twilight of his career. He joined United for a second stint in the summer of 2021, but has played sparingly since and has not been as prolific as he once was in front of goal.

It's been an especially tumultuous season this year for Ronaldo, whose love affair with the Old Trafford club has been strained ever since he declared he wanted to leave ahead of the 2022/23 campaign, reportedly to join a club who could offer him UEFA Champions League football.

The situation came to a head in late October, when he left a match early against Tottenham after refusing to come on as a substitute. That earned him a one-week suspension by the club.

Now, in an exclusive interview with Piers Morgan, which the British media personality says Ronaldo requested and is airing this week, the forward describes himself as feeling "betrayed" by Manchester United, and claims that individuals within the club are seeking to force him out.
