I made this video in response to a discussion that followed another video I made on the issue of using a knife in combat.

A good friend and former police colleague of mine has about 30 years security and tactical experience. As the former commander of a Tactical Reaction Unit in the South African Police, he now works for a US-based company, providing tactical training and close protection services for his employer all over the globe.

He asked me about my take on the legal aspects of the use of Paintball Guns for personal defense, knowing my background as a court expert and about my involvement in a case where a paintball gun featured specifically.

Since his employer does not allow social media posts by their senior protection officers, he asked me to share my experience and expertise on this issues – and to make a video about it.

I did, as requested, and this is my advice, based on an actual case I worked on.

Now take not that my friend was not involved in the case and that he shares my opinion. My client was not a security or police officer, had no special training and was not a licensed firearm owner.
I trust and hope that this video will educate, inform and help you make decisions of inform others about the possible use of a paintball gun, for personal defense.

I also hope it allows you to consider the consequences – if viewed under the ambit of the South African Firearms Control Act and the Jurisprudence that applies.
