Should I charge my tenants rent for having a pet?
Good question.
If you are more of a hobby landlord this is fine to charge pet rent. It is just one more way to get more income. In reality your best move would be to not allow pets since they do so much damage to rental properties.
However, instead of wasting a lot of time explaining your pet rent policy to your tenant in your rental home, you should get a proper education in investing so you can make real money instead of wasting time trying to collect pet rent. Focus on buying assets for less than market value and don’t waste a lot of time trying to charge pet rent.
From that question it is clear that you are thinking about this the wrong way. If you are investing alone with a small collection of 10 or 20 rental homes, then you need a mentor. It is so critical as a new investor to have a mentor help guide you and keep you from making a lot of mistakes.
Many new investors don’t know what they don’t know and when they make mistakes it can be very damaging including wasting years of their life buying the wrong asset (single family homes).
I offer education and training to landlords, engineers, doctors and dentists, and many others that would like to learn how to enjoy the benefits of investing as quickly as possible. If that sounds interesting contact my office by going to www.benjaminzmiller.com and fill out the contact form.
