What does it mean to be set apart for God

To be a christian for sure its not limited to sterile going to a building everyone is calling "church" but no external evidence of faith whatsoever!
And external evidence that we belong to Christ is what makes the message that Jesus changes people, credible!
So, thats why i underline this request to be set apart for God with every occasion that i have

Bible verse
James 2:18

But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds.
