KING KONG ESCAPES 1967 (aka Kingu Kongu no Gyakushu in Japan) - Japanese Version with English Subtitles. Evil Dr. Who & Madame Pirahna capture King Kong to dig for Element X when Dr. Who's mechanical creation, Mecha-Kong, is unable to do the task. Meanwhile, Dr Who perfects the mechanical Kong. Then Kong escapes and soon must confront the mechanical double.

Obviously NOT a sequel to King Kong vs Godzilla, and very much based upon the Rankin-Bass King Kong cartoon series, as Rankin-Bass were co-producers. Toho had the rights to use Kong in another film and had to do it within 5 years & they just made it. At least the Kong suit in this one is superior, and it's the first appearance of a Toho Mechanical Kaiju, non-humanoid.
