The maker of Sakuma’s Drops, a popular Japanese confection featured in the 1988 Studio Ghibli film Grave of the Fireflies, will go out of business in January 2023. Sakumaseika said on November 9, 2022, that the company was forced to fold because of the pressure of inflation and rising energy prices. The candy has been Sakumaseika’s flagship product since the company was established in 1908.
