Hello friends. Germany and Poland are two key members, both in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization - NATO and the European Union - EU. However, Poland is inherently very unhappy with Germany, because of the factors of war and conflict in the past. The territories of the two countries have many changes, and overlap a lot.
Since modern times, Germany and Poland have always been the two main characters in world wars. After World War I in 1918, Poland regained its independence, after being wiped out by the Russian, Austrian, and Prussian empires in the 18th century. According to the Treaty of Versailles after World War I, Poland gained the most territory from the German and Prussian empires.
However, the provisions of the Warsaw Pact in general, and the loss of land to Poland in particular, were seen as a great injustice in Germany. It helped lead to Hitler and the Nazi party taking advantage to come to power in Germany, rearm and launch World War II. On September 1, 1939, Poland was the first object that Germany invaded.
World War II officially started. During the war, Poland suffered about 6,000,000 casualties, about 17% of the population. And massive material damage, with 84% of infrastructure destroyed. The country was severely damaged. After the war, the Yalta agreement was unified by the US, the Soviet Union, and the UK.
Accordingly, the Polish territory had a major adjustment, when the eastern half of the territory was annexed by the Soviet Union into the Ukrainian Soviet Union. In return, most of the eastern German territory was annexed to Poland. After World War II, Poland became a socialist country with influence from the Soviet Union. While Germany was divided into two countries, East Germany and West Germany.
