Why We're BURNING MULTIFLORA ROSE — Ep 010

Though we haven't been on the land for long, one of the plants we have seen that has run amok is Rosa multiflora, which is the invasive multiflora rose. This plant was heralded into the United States back in the 1860s. Then in the 1930s, governmental agencies were handing the plants out to farmers—marketing it as a living hedge. Ever since then, it's taken quite a foothold in the landscape and it's almost impossible to remove.

Some folks will cut it back and rub the cuts with Round-up or equivalent, others will use a harmful fungus that attacks the rose, and still others, like ourselves will try to cut it back and mow it over.

This is the start of the journey of removing it and we know it won't end here!
