I Stopped Letting My Injury Hold Me Back

It’s hard to believe it’s been over 15 years, but when I broke my right hand and wrist longboarding (kids, take my advice and wear wrist guards 👀), and especially once I found out I’d have limited mobility for the rest of my life due to the hand fracture not being diagnosed in time, I was absolutely devastated. I went through multiple surgeries and lost all motivation to be active, and by age 21, I was in the worst shape of my life.

For far too long, I let fear dictate my decisions. I was always paranoid that I’d do something to injure it even worse if I lifted weights or hit it the wrong way playing sports/doing anything active, so I just stopped trying. Finally, I looked at myself in the mirror and decided I had had it. It’s taken me nearly 10 years (8 of which I was working out and dieting endlessly frustrated with not getting the body I wanted) to build the physique I have now but in a way, that just makes it that much more satisfying.

We all have limitations, deficiencies, imperfections; things we use as excuses for why we won’t do this, why we can’t do that. Some we can fix, some that can never be fixed. Whatever they are, don’t let them hold you back. Don’t let them define who you are and dictate how you live your life.

Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you at the gym.

P.S. There are no jokes/puns/pop culture references in this video, so if that’s what’s you’re looking for, please skip ahead to the next one 😁
