In this video we continue to clear the fence line and have a BIG excavator come in and refine the building site.

Hi - We are Douglas and Keri! In May of 2022 we quit our jobs and sold our home in Denver, Colorado to move to our off grid homestead property in Cochise County, Arizona. Follow along with us as we build our homestead from the ground up!

We are still working on clearing the fence line. We decided to do this by hand so that we could direct the fence around the bigger trees or shrubs that we want to keep, especially those beautiful mesquite trees! We also know that our property has a huge amount of animals on it like jack rabbit, cottontail rabbit, lizards, birds, fox, mice, tortoises, snakes (ugh), and probably a lot more stuff that we haven’t seen yet, so we want to try to preserve their homes too.

We had Marty from Marty Staneart Excavation come out and help us fine tune the building site. Once he started digging, we realized we would have to revise our home’s blueprint and take out the “tiers” that we thought we would do…the land just won’t allow it. The good news is Marty worked magic and was able to build up an almost level site and the even better news is underneath the surface layers is bedrock! YAY for bedrock, right?!
