SOURSOUP PLANT
Soursop (has a Latin name: Annona Muricala L.) – (Indonesian: Sirsak, Nangka Belanda, or Durian Belanda) or also known as Graviola is a flowering plant native to the Caribbean, Central America and South America. Soursop is a family with Jackfruit (Indonesian: Nangka).
In various regions of Indonesia, this soursop fruit is known as Nangka Sebrang, Nangka Landa (Java); Nangka Walanda, Sirsak (Sunda); Nangka Buris, Nangkèlan, Nangka Ènglan (Madura); Srikaya Jawa (Bali); Boh Lôna (Aceh), DurioUlondro (Nias); Durian Betawi (Minangkabau); Nangko Belando (Palembang); and Jambu Landa (Lampung).
The mention of "Landa, Walanda, or Belanda" and its variations suggests that although soursop did not originate in Europe, it was first imported to Indonesia (formerly known as Nusantara) by the Colonial Government of the Dutch East Indies in the 19th century. Zuurzak, meaning "Acidic Sac," is Dutch.
