Oak Tree Felled (for no good reason) - 1872-2022 -

This mature British #Oak Tree had been in residence for around 150 years and was perfectly healthy, as you can see from the photos taken earlier this year.

Neither the #ForestryCommission, District Council or local Parish Council were willing to protect this tree because there was no Tree Protection Order #TPO and it was on private land and not a Conservation Area. In fact, the temporary traffic lights outside suggested the council were aware of the work in advance and were indeed, in on it....

It is my opinion that native trees and trees in general over a certain age and size (100 years or 5 cubic meters) should be protected by default and that a license be required and applied for to remove large trees of significant size and age . Maybe it is time the law was amended and brought up to date?
