What is weed tiredness and how is it caused?

Okay, lets exclude situations where you’ve had one hell of a day, you’ve been run ragged and you’ve just sat down for the first time as you light up a joint.

Chances are you’ll be feeling pretty tired and that joint may just make you feel comatose.

Weed tiredness is a well-recognised side-effect of smoking weed, which is often why in films.

stoners are portrayed as being lazy and sluggish.

In truth, THC plays a major role in weed tiredness as when it attaches itself to CB1 receptors

in the body, this can create a feeling of tiredness. Thus, the stronger the levels of THC, the more tired you are likely to feel after having a good smoke, However, CBD is also believed to play a role if levels are relatively high as we know that low doses of CBD actually help with alertness.

CBD in relatively large doses is recommended for sleeplessness.

Beyond this we then have terpenes, those chemicals responsible for the smell and taste of
cannabis.

In the same way we use certain scents to create an atmosphere of calm, like lavender, the
strength of terpenes in certain cannabis strains also help to create a sense of tiredness and
lethargy.

Finally, the cause of sleepiness can also be put down to whether you are using a sativa-based
or indica-based weed.

Research shows that Indica strains are more associated with relaxation and calming, while
sativas tend to be more uplifting and exhilarating.

So, if you suffer from drowsiness and feeling wiped out after smoking cannabis...

Don’t blame it on the sunshine.
Don’t blame it on the moonshine.
Don’t blame it on the good times.
Blame it on the THC... our little homage to The Jacksons
