Japanese Relocation

Produced in 1943 by the U.S. Office of War Information, the propaganda film "Japanese Relocation" attempts to explain the reasoning behind Japanese relocation, or internment, following the attack on Pearl Harbor. President Franklin D. Roosevelt authorized the forced Japanese-American incarceration on February 19, 1942, with an executive order.

Americans of Japanese ancestry were rounded up or "relocated" to camps where they were monitored by the United States military. This is one of the darkest chapters in American history in terms of its blatant contradiction of the freedoms supposedly guaranteed to American citizens. The Japanese who were interned had to sell their homes and property at a loss before relocation and the process fractured many lives both economically and emotionally.
