AEA, 후쿠시마 어류 채취…'오염수 방류 문제없다' 日주장 검증

This week, the International Atomic Energy Agency is collecting data to test the levels of radioactivity in waters near the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan as Japan prepares to release contaminated water from the plant into the sea.
In addition to these samples collected by Japanese labs, the IAEA says it's going to collect its own samples to verify the Japanese findings.
The government of Japan plans to release radioactive water from the nuclear plant that's been building up now for over a decade because space is running out.
The radioactivity in the water will have been significantly diluted.
The IAEA is going to review whether the plan to discharge the water complies with international safety standards.
Taking part in the project are two staff from the IAEA Environment Laboratories in Monaco, as well as one expert each from labs in Finland and South Korea.
