VERY IMPORTANT: Please do not clip a bird's wings unless it is critical to their health or safety. As discussed extensively in our book "The Ultimate Guide to Eclectus Parrots", a bird's ability to fly is crucial to their health, survival and general well being.

There are some scenarios where performing a 'gentle clip' is recommended such as when you are rehoming a bird. When a bird is introduced into a new environment - an environment they are unfamiliar with, the possibility of escape may be too high. In these cases, a 'gentle clip' can be performed.

In this video, we demonstrate how to safely clip a few flight feathers - being sure to leave the 2 outer primaries. This type of clip allows a bird to glide if they need without crashing to the ground. After a few months, once your new feathered friend has become familiar with their new surroundings, this clip will have grown out allowing them the natural freedom to fly as nature intended.
