Are the US midterms a referendum on Donald Trump?

Americans have been voting for a whole variety of candidates, from state governors to US senators and a new Congress. It’s turned out a lot better for the Democratic Party than most polls had predicted.

The 'red wave' promised by the Republicans did not materialise. Despite issues such as inflation and the cost of living, President Biden's party did not take a drubbing.

But it does look like the Democrats will lose control of the House of Representatives by a small margin.

As it stands, control of the Senate still hangs in the balance, which could spell trouble for Biden. However, many Republicans are also casting the results as a big setback for Donald Trump.
