Harvest Is Now Gathered!
"If I were a bird, I would fly about the Earth seeking the successive autumns.”- George Eliot
Harvest Is Gathered!
When air is crisp as winter winds swirl and come whisking in,
the trees remove colorful coats of green baring branches again.
Children take extra time to play outside to enjoy treats of fall day.
They dress now in warm jackets with summer shorts put away.
Boys and girls climb high rock walls, as they bask in the fall sun.
They play tag and chase each other, in games of childhood fun.
The boys put acorns in their pockets, treasures from the tall oaks.
The girls stand and watch them, laughing at their silliest of jokes.
We see flocks of geese in the sky as north to south they start to fly.
They seek a warmer sun, but their departure causes many to sigh,
as, sight of all is a reminder cold weather is drawing closer at hand.
Bounty of fall has been gathered with needed of rest now planned.
Harvest parties are held, and folks join together for fun once more.
They dance, drink hot cider, rejoice, telling tall tales of old folklore.
As they've toiled often during long seasons of summer and spring,
celebration of harvest is their way of offering thanks as they sing!
Love and fellowship are shared with family and friends!
