Footage from NASA showed the rocket lifting off from the space centre base in California.
The launch is part of a joint satellite mission to monitor extreme weather conditions and climate change.
The mission was originally scheduled for November 1 but was reportedly delayed due to a mechanical error on the day of lift-off.
