Erdoan: Turkey to outfit warships with local vertical launch systems | Turkey News | NewsRme
Turkey has made its own vertical launch system (VLS) for naval platforms, which will replace the ones bought from other countries, President Recep Tayyip Erdoan said Friday. The systems will also be used on warships that will be built in the near future.
A test and training ship, TCG Ufuk (A-591) was constructed and delivered to the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) on Friday for a cooperative operation with the Naval Forces Command. It was conceived and built using national resources and skills.
According to Erdoan, the domestic VLS would be installed aboard the Istanbul Frigate, the fifth ship in the MILGEM (National Ship) construction project, which was unveiled last year.
While Turkey has already received four corvettes from Turkish shipyards under the MILGEM program, they have built warships for Pakistan and Ukraine as well.
