The longest word in the world is ...

The chemical name of a protein, which starts with methionylthreonylglutaminyl... and goes on for quite a bit after that, has the longest string of letters used to describe anything. It takes upwards of three hours to recite and has 189,819 letters, which fill more than 50 pages.
