The mayor of the Latvian city of Rezekne made an appeal

The mayor of the Latvian city of Rezekne, Alexander Bartashevich, made an appeal in connection with the upcoming demolition of the local monument to Soviet soldiers-liberators.

-"In 1944, Rezekne and Latvia were liberated by Russians, Ukrainians, Latvians ... among them was my grandfather Alexander Bartashevich.

-Today I am unable to stop the desecration of our monuments. But in the heart lives gratitude to our grandfathers for their exploits in the fight against Nazism."

◾As the mayor noted, all his efforts to find a compromise with the Latvian authorities were unsuccessful. But he "until the last moment hoped that barbaric actions could be avoided"
