Watch: Russian Superyacht Destined for Cape Town Goes Under the Radar

There is growing curiocity around sanctioned Russian oligarch, Alexey Mordashov's R9 billion superyacht, Nord.

The yacht is said to have left Hong Kong on October 20.

It was headed for Cape Town and apparently turned off its automatic identification systems (AIS) on October 26.

At the time it was near Banda Aceh in Indonesia.

The vessel was expected to arrive in Cape Town on Wednesday 9.

The DA and Cape Town Mayor, Geordin Hill-Lewis opposed the yacht docking in Cape Town.

President Cyril Ramaphosa on the other hand has said that legally, South Africa is not bound by sanctions imposed by the US and EU.
