PAPUA "Paradise for birds"
The Birds-of-Paradise Project presents Tanah Papua:
A Bird's Paradise.
The Indonesian provinces of Papua and West Papua on the island of New Guinea make up the country of Papua, or "Tana Papua" in Indonesian. The region supports one of the world's few large-scale rainforests and is home to nearly half of Indonesia's biodiversity. Papua is home to over 600 bird species, including 27 Birds of Paradise, many of which live nowhere else on Earth. Global interest in Papuan birds is increasing opportunities for wildlife tourism and generating new economic benefits for local communities. Sustainable development is important not only for the future of Papua's forests and people, but also for the world.
Cornell Lab's Birds of Paradise Project works with the governments of Papua and West Papua and other international partners to advance the science, engagement and conservation of local biodiversity with a focus on birds of paradise.
