This song was published on 1904 during the Russo-Japanese War and was a tribute song to Lieutenant Colonel Tachibana Shūta who died in Liaoyang, China. He was immediately shot after moments of leaving the trench while he was announcing a charge against the Russian position. After his death and the end of the war, just a year later, he was viewed as a heroic martyr. His regiment, the 34th Regiment, was renamed to the "Tachibana Regiment", there were numerous monuments of him in several cities, the bay near his hometown was officially renamed “Tachibana Bay”, And he was deified and his birthplace was converted to a Shinto Shrine, which is still around to this day. Before his death, he was treated of high importance and in 1891, He was assigned as an aide-de-camp to the Crown Prince at the time, Yoshihito (Emperor Taisho)
