The Australian’s Adam Creighton says the destruction of the Nord Stream gas line is the “story of the decade”.

“It’s quite extraordinary – I don’t know who did it but certainly everyone has jumped to blame Moscow,” he told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

“It’s very hard to see what Russia’s incentive was to destroy infrastructure that it spent something like $20 billion building.”

Mr Creighton said there was no gas running through the pipelines at the time of the explosion but the act itself was an “act of war” on Germany.

“It’s severely curtailed Germany’s ability – if it wanted to – to get certain energy supplies,” he said.
