Illinois police warn drivers after spate of gas station thefts
Illinois’s Crestwood Police Department warned members of the public on November 7, after they said several thefts from vehicles occurred while car owners were refueling at gas stations. In this footage, posted on Facebook by the department, a person can be seen standing with their back to their vehicle as a second car pulls up. An individual in a hoodie opens the passenger door and removes personal belongings. Police said there had been several thefts of this nature in the past two weeks. “This is a reminder to please turn off the ignition and lock your car when refueling,” they said. “Pay attention to your surroundings and be vigilant.” Police said detectives were “continuing to investigate these incidents, including recovering the stolen vehicles used in the crime to attempt to obtain further evidence.”
