The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported a magnitude 4.4 quake in Turkey near Izmir, İzmir, only 12 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Sunday, August 14th, 2022, at 6:24 am local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the Kandilli Oservatory and Earthquake Research Institute in Istanbul (KOERI-RETMC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.9 earthquake.
