Swans are birds of the Anatidae family belonging to the genus Cygnus. Its closest relatives are geese and ducks. The swans form the Cignini tribe and just like the geese, they are members of the subfamily Anserinae. They are sometimes considered part of a distinct subfamily, a Cigninae. Currently, six living species and a few more extinct species are considered; the species known as Coscoroba is not considered one of the true swans. Swans are generally monogamous animals, occasionally changing partners throughout their lives, particularly after nesting failure or when the partner dies. The number of eggs per clutch is between 3 and 8 eggs.[1][2]
