Door open for Anies, Ganjar and Gen. Andika to join 2024 race

The NasDem Party announced last week that it was looking to tout Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, Central Java Ganjar Pranowo or Indonesian Military (TNI) Commander Gen. Andika Perkasa as a presidential nominee.

The three names emerged following a vote by the party’s regional executive boards in all 34 provinces of the country.

Anies and Ganjar have consistently topped opinion polls on the 2024 presidential race.

NasDem’s plan to tip Anies, Ganjar or Andika surfaced amid claims that members of the ruling coalition had agreed to prevent “political outsiders”, or independent candidates, from contesting the 2024 presidential election.

The deal was reportedly revealed during a meeting between President Joko Widodo and the leaders of the seven parties that form the coalition government.
