Are you moving enough?

Imagine a world where you can eat as much candy as you want. Where the hamburgers are cheap and the gas station nacho cheese flows like liquid gold.

Welcome to life! You made it!
Now stuff your face with a bunch of unhealthy crap and don’t even think about kicking the habit!

I ate more candy this week than I did the entire year. We let our kids eat as much of their Halloween candy as they want for a week and then get rid of the rest. It’s good for their teeth and a way to allow them to have a weeklong candy binge once a year. (Those sugar crash hangovers are pretty intense though).

Now imagine living like that and allowing your body to simply exist.

Your muscles get weaker. Your skeleton starts carrying more of the load. Pretty soon you’re aging like someone 20 years older than you are now.

We MUST keep moving. For me, I just try to move everyday. I like going to the gym but even if it’s just walking around the block a couple of times, I can tell when I haven’t been moving enough. I feel sluggish. I feel tired. I feel like I don’t want to move any more.

But you gotta move!

The small cost of moving your body for some basic level of fitness comes with HUGE rewards. Higher energy, better sleep, a body that feels well put together and cohesive instead of a skeleton propping up all of the abnormal weight.

We live with the curse of living through the most prosperous time in all of human history. I know, I know, it’s our cross to bear on this one.

It’s easier now than ever to NOT move. This past decade is literally the first time EVER that large portions of society could stay inside their home for long periods of time AND ACTUALLY SURVIVE! Uber eats, grocery delivery, someone will buy your toilet paper and drop it off at your doorstep. You can eat, poop, wipe your butt, and get more toilet paper without taking more than a couple hundred steps a day (and you’ll probably die a lot earlier that way too).

You have a body! It’s awesome! DO SOMETHING WITH IT!
