Congolese sound alarm over EU fossil fuel car ban
COP27 kicked off in Egypt with the ‘We must act now’ message lighting up the Giza pyramids, prompting many online to question just how ‘green’ the message was – considering the energy wasted on displaying it. While COP27’s aim is to ensure the Paris Agreement and reduce fossil fuel use, and the EU to ban fossil fuel cars by 2035, the DRC, the world’s largest producer of cobalt – a key ingredient in car batteries – has sounded the alarm over dangerous working conditions at mostly Western-owned mines.
