The reality faced by millions of young adults today is precarious. This has only been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, almost 270 million young people worldwide are not in employment, education, or training. For young women, this is twice as likely as for young men.
What we do to support them, we must get right.

To support the economic empowerment of young people, UNDP invests heavily in skills development. For meaningful impact, skills development should be matched with employment programmes. It should take into account different contexts and the different needs of young men and women. It should address the causes of inequality at the root.
This is a generation at risk, but it is also a generation of hope.
