Was King Saul Saved?

Was King Saul saved? Many question whether Saul was ever saved or whether he was saved and later lost his salvation. The verse they quote is 1 Samuel 16:14: "But the Spirit of the Lord departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him." But there is a difference between the "indwelling of the Spirit" and the Spirit coming *upon* a believer for a special task or anointing.
