Why do bad things happen to good people?

A hard question to be asked by anybody, believer or not. Not everything is an attack from the Devil, anymore than everything being a lesson from God. Sometimes these things are just a product of our own stupidity. It could be somebody exercising choice, or even divine intervention. Either way you slice it, it all boils down to perspective. How do you choose to view it?
