Duwili Waterfall
The Duwili Waterfalls (Walawe Ganga East Falls) is a waterfall located in the village of Thanjatenna, approximately 30km from Balangoda in the Ratnapura District of Sri Lanka. The Kalthota Duwili falls is ensconced some three kilometers off Balangoda – Kalthota main road. Duwili Ella Waterfall is situated in the Rajawaka Reserve which covers an area of 27 hectares at the border of Uva Province and Sabaragamuwa Province, it’s belongs to the dry zone of Sri Lanka according to the climatic conditions. The height of this waterfall is about 40 meters (130 feet). Duwili Ella Waterfall waterfall is fed by the Walawe River.
Duwili Ella cascaded down the cliff from the hills behind into the dark rock pool below creating an unendingly rising cloud of tiny water droplets which earned it the label of Duwili Ella.
At a height of about 40 meters, the dust clouds formed by the scattering of water droplets from each other are spectacular. There are several waterfalls known as the Cyrillic Duwili Ella Waterfall in Sri Lanka. Among them, Duwili Ella Waterfall which cascades down to Kalthota is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Sri Lanka.
Nobody can bathe in the rock pool into which the water sinks. The pool is assumed, through trustworthy tests by the villagers, and said to be over thirty feet in depth. So it is highly perilous even to dip your feet into it. You’ll see that the water in the pool is frighteningly dark. It silently shows how far the water runs deep. And upper area also had mysterious stones covered by the water torrent, those stones with big holes, and with the water pressure humans can be sunk into those holes. Villagers and the entrance officers said there are more than 30 people dead so this is a dangerous waterfall for a bathe.
About 30 km from Balangoda on the Kaltota road you can reach the car park at Duwili Ella Waterfall. To get near the falls, you have to go down about 500 meters from there. To reach the waterfall is a bit difficult, but there are stairs way to the waterfall viewpoint, and nearby the falls there are benches and sanitation facilities have been built for tourists visiting the falls. A viewing point has been set up near the falls and you can easily see the falls from there. Washroom facilities as well as a children's park have been set up near this viewing point.
You should go and enjoy the beauty of the Kalthota Duwili Waterfalls and experience the beauty of this beautiful dusty cascade. And also, be a respectful traveller and do not harm that beautiful environment so that future generations can see that beauty.
