An ATR 42 plane with registration 5H-PWF, belonging to Tanzania’s Precision Air, has crashed into Lake Victoria. The incident took place earlier today, in the morning hours local time. According to information from local authorities there were 43 people on board, 39 passengers and four crew members. Another source reported that there were 49 people on board instead of 43.

First news is that there are no casualties, but rescue work is ongoing, helped by mainly locals that came into action when they saw the plane ditching into Lake Victoria waters. Earlier on, the pilots were still inside the plane and in contact with rescue workers at the scene. The plane was traveling on a domestic flight from Mwanza to Bukoba in Tanzania

The 12-year-old ATR 42-500 was delivered to Precision Air in 2008 and doesn’t have any other users than this airline. Because the plane did not have active ADS-B equipment on board during its flight, tracking by websites like Flightradar24 wasn’t possible.
