Typhoon Noru makes landfall in Philippines

A powerful typhoon has gained strength while approaching the northeastern Philippines, prompting the evacuations of thousands of people, including in the capital, Manila.
Typhoon Noru is swirling at sea and is forecast to sustain winds of 190 kilometres an hour, as well as gusts of up to 240 kilometres an hour.
Thousands of people have been evacuated from the typhoon’s path, with warnings for tidal surges.
