Basics 28 Divine Institution #2: Marriage

Today I'm going to talk about a subject that needs a lot of attention in the modern church: Marriage and Divorce. I'm doing this because I have faced this for many years as a pastor-teacher and I have studied it extensively. As a pastor you face people who are struggling in their marriages and you want to give them biblical advice. Not surprisingly, I found a book called Marriage and Divorce, 4 Views ed. Wayne House. I've known Wayne for over 20 years. I read the book way back then and studied all the passages I knew of from both the OT and NT. I was never really satisfied with any of the views, but adopted one of them, then changed. About 5 years later I ran across a fifth view, but didn't give it much attention. A few years ago I got back into the topic and spent time again going through the texts and views of these texts, especially the fifth view. The Scriptures opened up this time and I've been at rest with this view for several years now. When I saw Wayne in March of 2022 we talked about this and neither one of us hold any of the 4 views that are most well-known and popular. TOMORROW I THINK YOU WILL SEE THINGS YOU NEVER SAW IN THE SCRIPTURE BEFORE. I am very passionate about this topic because it is very important and I think the church has totally fumbled the ball here. There are historical reasons why, but they are ultimately inexcusable. I want to set the record straight. I want people to realize their obligations in marriage and how to make their marriages better. I think everyone wants a better marriage, so much so that sometimes they leave one to go to another one just to repeat the same mistakes and end up in the same boat, or worse. That's not the answer. I want to show you what the answer is. I won't be able to do it justice in 1 hour, but I will do my best to at least show you the big scriptures and show you things you may HAVE NEVER SEEN though YOU'VE READ THE VERSES. Tomorrow you'll understand them. I've attached a handout.

Grace to you,
Jeremy
