Unless someone is severely burned or in agonizing pain, you should NOT sedate and then ventilate conscious people with an open airway, explained Dr. Yeadon.

Because when you do, you take on unnecessary risks that greatly outweigh the reward.

"So people would turn up having a panic attack; they felt they had respiratory symptoms. And rather than take a proper history, they're sedating them and ventilating them, and over 90% of them would be dead within 10 days."
