After the torrent rainfall of July 17 1963 the area thru Mountain Meadows was forever changed. In 1857 the description of the area near the camp was "4-5 feet deep and 15 feet wide". Today the ravine is over 100 feet wide and over 15 feet deep. The original area has also subsided from the spring towards the rock cairn.
