Lithuanian activists who "liberated" a Soviet monument may face trials in accordance with a Criminal code provision.

According to the Vilnius district police, materials & evidence are already being collected under Article 284 of the Criminal Code which deals with public order violations . Kazimieras Juraitis, who removed the black cover from the Soviet monument and posted the video on his page on the social network, will be investigated by law enforcement officers.

It is noted that the pre-trial investigation has not yet begun.

"On November 1, members of the International Neighborhood Forum association, led by Algirdas Paleckis, removed black fabric covers from Soviet monuments at the Antakalnis cemetery in Vilnius."

By decision of the Vilnius municipality, the monument was covered again. The authorities say  the Soviet monument will remain covered until the local municipality succeeds in getting it demolished.
