'Coca-Cola', the design of the 'Coca-Cola' contour bottle and open happiness are registered trademarks of The Coca-Cola Company.

The story of the happy flag is an interesting story. In the 1920s, Coca-Cola was selling more bottles in the South than any other region. But the North was the largest market. So the company's president, Robert Woodruff, sent a message to all bottlers with strict instructions to create a new advertising campaign and a new image for the Coca-Cola product. The campaign was to focus on the Coca-Cola product and not on the soda fountains where it was sold. The new campaign was to associate the product with happy, carefree times. Coca-Cola bottlers were to create ads based on the theme "Delightfully refreshing." The ads were to feature images of people skiing, playing tennis, riding rollercoasters and playing baseball. The ads were to feature young people, which was a departure for the staid family ads that had been created for Coca-Cola in the past. If you look closely at the secret formula on the Coca-Cola label, you will find these six ingredients: carbonated water, caramel color, phosphoric acid, caffeine, natural flavors, and--you guessed it--sugar.
