Protests erupt as former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is injured in an assassination attempt

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was in stable condition on Thursday after being wounded in the leg during a political event in what the country's president described as a "heinous assassination attempt.

Khan survived with a gunshot wound to his right calf, while many members of his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party were also struck by gunfire directed at their modified container truck as it slowly passed through a dense throng near Gujranwala.
